A tribute to Tribune
Just want to give a shout out to my "new favouritist* module ever": Tribune.
I can't remember exactly how I came across it, but the module and project do a lot of things right:
- Actually explain what the module does at the top of the project page.
- Give a link to a working demo. The fact that it is actually populated is a bonus.
- It is available for Drupal 6 (even though it is a nightly dev release). Always a bonus.
- No extra steps - there is very little needed to set it up, and users can immediately post. No need to log in (unless the website decides to require it), no need to set up a chatroom. No need to even choose a username! (you can if you want to)
- It is actually FUN.
Now that last one is a winner. I am not one who normally likes chat type modules, but the simplicity and immediacy of this module got me over the initial dislike of such things. I can see it being addictive.
Even better, visiting the demo, there was this added feature of being able to find out the weather of a particular location. Brilliant.
I requested that filter and have enabled that option on this site with a few changes - I changed the french(?) terms (meteo, previsions) to English. For current weather, just type "/weather placename", for a forecast type "/forecast placename".
* Yes you heard that right. I officially declare "favouritist" as a word in my English dictionary.
