Windows 7

Fri, 23/10/2009 - 15:51 — You

I managed to get an offer for Windows 7 Professional for £30 (as a download only version - it is available to all people who are "students" or teachers or have access to an email address ending in .sch.uk or .ac.uk and a few others too) and since my Vista installation was both slow and the install of Vista Service Pack two was constantly failing, I thought it would be a good offer to waste the money. I did and this post is being written from Windows 7 Professional.

What is the difference between Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Professional? who cares - it has more features - most of which I will not use, but since they were both on offer for the same price, why would I go for the one with less features?

I used the RC's available before so there were not many problems expected and the only hurdle left is security software - Microsoft has recently launched "Microsoft Security Essentials" which will compete with the free versions of Avast!4 Home Avira Antivir and also AVG... choices choices.

Well the stark differences between the two are in the advanced networking features. Unless you're running a windows based server on a LAN or something it's really unnecessary. I know with Vista that home premium was more stable than the other releases initially.

I'm posting from ignorance though as I have not used 7 pro personally. My main beef with 7 and partially with vista is how they are trying to make things easier but they're just adding more layers and sugar coating things and subsequently for someone who is trying to do advanced things it just gets in the way even more.

They need to simplify the entire structure.
